Web Site Analysis

The website that I decided to analyze is named Grantland.  It is an affiliate of ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports.  The URL for the site is simply www.grantland.com.  The reason I chose to analyze Grantland is because it is a site that I often visit because it provides an alternative to the usual sporting websites and other sources available.  I find the site to be refreshing while also providing a nice tribute to the days of newspaper and when written print was the primary source of information to the public.

The website is designed to provide readers with sports stories as well as pop culture stories, while also blending historical and current issues.  The goal of Grantland is to give its readers quick and easy access to the articles and it accomplishes this goal.  The majority of Grantland is text-based with not many pictures, which is what I find to be most unique about the website.  It is almost like an electronic newspaper, where the stories each have a headline with one or two pictures.

Navigation on the site is very easy, as all of the headlines from the day are laid out right down the center of the screen.  The headlines are the most important, and those stories are positioned appropriately, which is right down the middle.  There are no areas for user comments or additions, which I find to be another refreshing characteristic of the site.  Grantland gives the reader what they have come to see, the stories and nothing else.  Another defining factor of Grantland is that the writers are able to give their own opinions on different topics in their own words, and in some stories, censorship is nonexistent.  Grantland gives off an honest, straightforward view on things that I love.

I love everything that Grantland stands for, and if I was given the task to change the site, I wouldn’t change a single thing.  It is a great site that puts the facts and the stories first above all else, a unique characteristic in today’s world.

Owls Off and Running!

The Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams opened up the 2011-12 campaign this past weekend at Haverford, PA.  There were several Owls who posted strong performances throughout the events, and yours truly finished 4th place in the 300m dash.  This was the first meet I’ve competed in since 2010, and I feel poised to make some noise on the track and have a great year!

This weekend in Brussels, Yohan Blake ran the second fastest time in the 200m dash in history behind Usain Bolt and became the world leader in 2011 in the event.  His performance only adds to the growing excitement surrounding the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
